2016 SLIAC Baseball Championships

base16t[Taken from SLIAC.ORG]  The final St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship of the year will take place this weekend with the 2016 Baseball Tournament. The tournament field will include Greenville College, MacMurray College, Webster University, and Westminster College.

Tournament at a Glance
This year’s tournament will be held in Greenville, Illinois at Robert E. Smith Field in the John M. Strahl Athletic Complex. The tournament is a three day, double elimination format with games running from Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14.

Thursday, May 12
Game 1- #1E MacMurray vs. #2W Westminster, 2 p.m.
Game 2- #1W Webster vs. #2E Greenville, 5 p.m.
Game 3- Loser of Game 1 vs. Loser of Game 2, 8 p.m.

Friday, May 13
Game 4- Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2, 5 p.m.
Game 5- Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4, 8 p.m.

Saturday, May 14
Game 6- Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5, 1 p.m.
Game 7- If Necessary, immediately following Game 6

Tournament Tidbits

  • Greenville is making their 15th trip to the SLIAC Tournament, winning their first ever title last year.
  • MacMurray is making its 10th appearance in the tournament but their first since the 1999 season. The Highlanders have won four tournament titles with the last coming in 1997.
  • Webster is making their 20th SLIAC Tournament appearance and have won eight tournament titles.
  • This is Westminster’s 15th trip to the tournament and the program has won the tournament a total of three times with the last coming 1999.
  • Greenville has appeared in the last two SLIAC Tournament championship games, falling to Webster in 2014 and defeating Westminster in 2015.
  • Not only is this MacMurray’s first postseason since 1999 it is their first winning season since 1999 while their 22 wins are the most since the 2000 season.
  • Webster will be looking to make their seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament and will host the Central Regional next weekend.
  • Westminster’s 25 wins during the regular season are the most since the program won 32 games in the 2001 season.
  • Greenville went 2-5 against teams in the tournament.
  • MacMurray was 3-4 overall against opponents in the tournament.
  • Webster finished 4-3 this year against teams in the tournament field.
  • Westminster recorded a 5-2 record against this year’s tournament teams.
